On Monday 24 October 2016, ACAD’s Executive Manager Khalil Al-Khatib and the Chairperson of Al-Azariyeh Charitable Society Haj Rajab Bassah signed a partnership agreement that aims to support the economic initiatives of Jerusalemite women. According to this agreement, ACAD will, through Al-Azariyeh Charitable Society, provide support for these women to establish small economic enterprises and help them to have access to local markets in addition to training and provision of necessary advice.
This cooperation comes within the activities of “Advancing the Rights of Vulnerable Palestinian Women and Children in East Jerusalem” project, which is implemented by ACAD, managed by Heinrich Boll Stiftung “Jordan and Palestine Office” and funded by the European Union.
It is worth to mention that ACAD currently works with three grassroots organizations in Jerusalem including: Burj Luq Luq Social Center Society, the Domari Society of Gypsies in Jerusalem and Al-Thawri Silwan Women Center. Within the context of this project, ACAD provided the necessary training for women to build their capacities in several fields (life skills, home maintenance, saving and credit program and how to start your enterprise, among other activities) so as to enable women beneficiaries to later establish small collective enterprises.
